COMMITTEE REPORTS
Bogs/Water Level:
There have been no reports of
floating bogs. The water level is up somewhat from the late summer due to five plus inches of rain that has fallen in the
fall of 2008
Aquatic Vegetation/Water Quality:
Dr. Bill reported that a LID assessment
of exotic vegetation growth was done on September 18th. Gordy accompanied Pat Selter from Professional Lake Management.
It was observed that there was very minimal visible growth of milfoil on the East end of the lake; however, there are a few
new infested areas on the lake that will be treated in the spring/summer of 2009. Curly Leaf Pondweed growth was also observed
to be minimal. “The 2008 exotic vegetation battle has been won; the war fighting the exotic weeds will continue”!!
Land Use/Planning and Zoning:
Tammy Gangstad, Water Plan and Zoning Coordinator, passed
away suddenly of a brain aneurism this past fall. No replacement for her position has been announced.
Membership:
Margaret reported that our association now numbers 300 paid members. Secretary Darline sent out 150 unpaid dues notices
in August, resulting in 38 additional paid memberships.
OLD BUSINESS
LID:
The proposed budget for
the LID was presented to the county commissioners in September, and it was accepted. As a result, the 2009 assessment for
all property owners will be decreased approximately $50.00 for the year 2009.
Report of September 13th
Clean-Up Day:
Lake Alexander Property Owners, as well as other residents of Scandia Valley, were very
appreciative of the project. Fees collected from items brought for disposal totaled $741.00. Disbursements were $640.00 to
the S.W. Recycling and $1,126.54 to City Sanitary Commercials. Total cost to the association was $1,025.54. It was suggested
that the project be repeated in two years; every five years thereafter.
A big THANK YOU to Alice Sunde, Margaret Flolid,
Bob Anderson, Chuck Schiemo, and Gordy Schenian who supplied the manpower to implement the project
NEW BUSINESS
2009 Annual Meeting
The 200 annual meeting will be held on the same date as
the LID Annual Meeting, most likely to be scheduled for the second Saturday in July.
Lake Shore Restoration
Seminar:
Tom requested and received information from Helen McLennan, District Manager of Morrison Soil
and Water Conservation . She is willing to be of further assistance if it is decided to pursue this project. Bob and Tom
will gain more information from the Initiative Foundation and Jim Lilienthal this spring. Helen also stated that her office
would be willing to test well water for nitrates. This could be done at our annual meeting.
Ads for Newsletter:
It was agreed by the Board that the economy isn’t very healthy at the current time, and asking for money from the
local businesses would not be an easy sell.
Next Board Meeting:
The next Board meeting
will be held April 20, 2009 unless there is a need to meet before the spring months.
Adjourn:
A motion was made by Chuck, seconded by Margaret, to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 7:17 P.M.
Respectfully
Submitted,
Darline Molde
Secretary
