Question: We noted an unusual phenomena at the lake on Friday and Saturday
evenings, August 27 and 28, and wonder if anyone else was aware of this. We heard a loud humming type noise above our neighbor's
house and looking upward saw a cloud of possibly insects probably 40 feet high above the treetops. We also were able
to see the same configurations over Ogema Point, Haystack Island and various other parts of the lake. We became aware
of this between 8pm and 9pm on those evenings We're wondering if anyone can tell us what this was or give us more
of an explanation. We live on the North Shore of the Lake in Goodvin Bay.
Response: I was told that they are called mosquito flies or robber flies, or something like that. I have
gotten quite a few comments about them over the past week, and yes, they are present all around and in good quantities, to
say the least. I don't know much more than that, however. Better a little information than none at all-
Hope all is
well, we're getting one last dose of summer...

Question:
Hello, I
like the website. I am an association member. I am trying to get information on a blower that attaches to a dock
and moves water. It has a prop like a trolling motor and is housed in a blue tube about 9" in diameter. It runs
on 110. I think it retails for around $400. I saw a brochure once but can't find anything on the internet.
Does anyone up there have a mfr, model name, or area dealer? Thank you.
Response:
A marina in Crosslake sells a trolling type motor which attaches
to the dock--much like you are describing for the purpose of water circulation. The brand is Scott's and the cost
aprox. $800. I had the website of the this manufacturer however, I can not seem to find it at this time. I will
continue my search and provide should I come across it. Have a nice winter!!
I finally found the information on the Scott's aerator water mover. It's similar to a trolling motor but run's
on household current and very powerful. They are primarily used around Marina's in the winter to keep water from freezing
around boats left in the water. The information can be found on line at www.scottaerator.com or by phone at 1-800-water-45. I have personally seen them work and they really move the water. I want one!
Happy Thanksgiving!
