Happy fall LAPOA Members,
October
2011
Here it is again, the fall President's Letter
- it is mid-October, most to the leaves have fallen and winter is on the horizon, like it or not. So we've
gone from one of the wettest summers to one of the driest autumns on record - what a difference a day makes! I
have measured at least an 8 inch lake-level drop since mid-August, and I'll leave that up to each of you individually
as to whether that's good or bad, for me my boathouse floor is dry for the first time since ice out…it will be
interesting to see what these water levels have for effect relative to ice heaves during winter. All in
all, I would imagine many of you are pleased to see the lake levels drop from their summer highs. Other than that, there seems
to have been few, if any, issues relating to our aquatic invasive species, Eurasian water milfoil and curlyleaf pondweed,
and that I'm sure is fine by all?! There has only been one bog issue, which was addressed by the Flolid's
(thanks much for those efforts!), so again, a relatively, dare I say, sublime late summer and fall around the lake.
If there are any issues you feel should be brought to the attention of the Property Owners Board to be addressed, feel
free to contact one of us at your convenience, we are here to serve you our Members… The Board will
be having its final meeting of the Fall season on Sunday, October 16, to close out 2011 and set the table for 2012.
Please remember to check out our website at www.lakealexander.com for more information and meeting
minutes.
In regards to the Lake Improvement
District (as I am now serving as the Chair), their strategy for combating aquatic invasive plants is set to continue in similar
fashion as has been. The proposed budget for the LID for 2012 was presented to the Morrison County Board
of Commissioners during September, and the assessment to each littoral property owner will be nearly the same as 2011, that
is to say $261.96. And to remind folks, should any bog issues arise during fall or next spring, please
remember it is the Lake Improvement District that deals with this so please feel free to contact one of their Board members
(which include me?!) for assistance and enquiries.
Well, that should do it for this time around - I sincerely wish you all an enjoyable fall and winter around Lake
Alexander, feel free to contact me if you have questions or enquiries regarding any lake issues. I imagine
I won't be seeing most of you until next spring sometime, so until then, be safe and support a conservation agenda for
Lake Alexander, that's what we will continue to do on your behalf. Thanks as always for your continued
support of the Lake Alexander Property Owners Association!
In conservation,
Dr. Bill Faber, President
